Quasimodo Pottery Portfolio

Functional Collection: harmonizing form with function.

We strive to make pottery pieces that, not only can be used and enjoyed every day, but also on special occasions to make and serve your favourite dishes with flair.

In creating our pots the function of each piece determines the basic form but it is the creative vision of the artist, the design work and the glazing techniques that makes each piece unique.

We produce a wide range of functional pots of the finest craftsmanship using durable stoneware clay fired to high temperatures. The application of three layers of glazes creates a durable, glossy surface resistant to chips and cracks. It is easy to clean, ovenproof, dishwasher and microwave save and non toxic. You can count on years of daily use and enjoyment.

Decorative Collection:

Our decorative process is an adaptation of the Javanese fabric printing technique known as “Batik”. Using liquid wax resist and a specialized drawing tool the designs are hand drawn onto each piece. Selected areas of each design are filled in with different coloured glazes to accentuate the image.

Due to the labour intensive process these pieces are produced in very limited quantities and are “one of a kind”. Contact us for availability.

Raku Collection:

A 16th Century Japanese firing technique where glazed pots are fired very quickly to a high temperature and when still molten placed in a lidded container with sawdust or straw creating smoke. The smoke atmosphere creates the lustres and iridescence of the glazes. The clay used is very porous to be able to withstand the extreme temperature changes of heating and cooling rapidly and the pots are not suitable for holding water. Due to the smokey atmosphere created in the firing Raku pieces must be fired outdoors. Fire restrictions limit the firings to Spring and Fall.

These are “one of a kind” pieces produced in limited quantities. Contact us for availability.
